The principle behind the methods of determination is not known and is not a subject of scientific authentication. But, many people claim that these methods are as effective as any other methods of detection. For those who prefer discretion while testing for pregnancy and for those who want to check the effectiveness of these methods, listed below are the different types of homemade pregnancy test.
Color change method: This homemade pregnancy test involves a chemical reaction that takes places when the urine of the pregnant woman comes in contact with pine oil. Pine oil is extensively used as a cleansing agent and is relatively cheap and easy to procure. In this method, Urine is supposed to be mixed with the pine oil and the mixture has to be left undisturbed for at least 15 minutes. After this time period, if there is a visible change in the color of this mixture, the result is said to be positive for pregnancy. Pine oil is either colorless or has a lightish tinge of yellow. It is not clear as to which color the resultant mixture would change to, indicating pregnancy.
Reaction method: Bleaching powder, which is used as whitening and cleansing agent, can also be used as the primary ingredient in a homemade pregnancy test kit. A little amount of this power has to be mixed with the urine of women and left undisturbed for at least ten minutes. If the mixture shows signs of agitation and increase in frothiness, it is considered to be an indicator of pregnancy. Bleach powder can also react with the uric acid in the urine and display similar results (even when tested with urine of men) but not all the time. There is some reaction happening to indicate certain chemicals in the urine but what these chemicals are and what the principle behind this reaction is not known.
Dandelion leaf test: This method is thought of as the most effective when it comes to homemade pregnancy test. A couple of Dandelion leaves are to be separate from the plant and left in a dry place for a few hours. The leaves must be kept away from sunlight. Then, these leaves need to be soaked in urine for a few minutes, taken out and left to dry. If there are blisters on the leaves after 10 minutes of drying, it is said to be an indicator of pregnancy.
